- 10/15/2013 – David L. Phillips, Director of the Program on Peace building and Rights at Columbia University’s Institute for the Study of Human Rights, confessed in a recent interview that Georgia should let other countries speculate on a potential boycott of the Sotchi Games. Russia takes Tbilisi’s goodwill for granted, but the debate whether Georgia should participate in the Sochi Olympics is quite hot in this Caucasus country.
- 10/16/2013 – Ex-hockey star Angela Ruggerio retired in 2011 and is now IOC member and USOC board member. This year, she became President of the Women’s Sports Foundation, which militates for equal gender participation in sports events. She said that 44% of women did take part in the London Olympics last year, almost reaching the 50% goal of the IOC.
- 10/17/2013 – South Korean President Park Geun-hye and Philippine President Benigno Aquino III met on Wednesday 17 October 2013 to foster cooperation between the two countries. Mainly focusing on the promotion of economic and trade ties and defense industry cooperation, both presidents also signed a memorandum of understanding on sports exchanges.

- 10/22/2013 – Former Malaysian education minister Datuk Saifuddin Abdullah called for more people-to-people exchanges between his country and Indonesia, saying that “we no longer need to depend on governnment-to-government initiatives when the people-to-people relationship can be more effective”. He added that officials from other ministries like international trade, education and sports also have an essential role to play.
- 10/23/2013 – In late October 2013, St. Peter launched its own cricket club, challenging the Church of England. Through this initiative, the Vatican hopes to engage a better dialogue with other denominations and religions. This is also a way to bring together clerics from all around the world, mainly from the Indian subcontinent (India, Sri Lanka, Pakistan and Bangladesh). The “ecumenical” match may be held in September 2014.

- 10/24/2013 – Last month, members of the U.S. army took part in a road-race in Belgium. This event was organized by the International Military Sports Council (CISM), an organisation created in the wake of World War II. It aims to sustain friendship between former Allied forces and encourage them to grow their ties through sports. Over the decades, no less than 133 nations have participated in the games set up by the CISM.
